I've read tons of tweets and a few articles about what Colin Kaepernick started a little over a year ago but i'm interested to hear the perspectives/opinions of those involved in this class. Assuming any of you have the time and interest to share. The idea that someone wouldn't support a man who is bringing attention to racism and police brutality is anathema to me and I imagine most or all of you. That part seems settled. Question I have- What do we make of the fact that Jerry Jones(cowboys owner) knelt alongside his entire team? An "old rich white guy" who donated 1 Million to Trump(i think that's right?) who now wants to show up. Does he get credit for that? Should we call him out or should he be accepted into the fold(at least to some degree). From experience i know that if he isn't accepted into the fold that white people will say "see no matter what we do they are never satisfied." Which is the Lee Atwater way of calling someone uppity. Jones has always preyed on and profited from controversy and he's clearly using(misusing) this brilliant protest in a way that furthers his wealth and his brand. There's a lot more here about the co-opting of the narrative, the lack of white faces involved, etc but this issue comes up so much and i think its likely to come up more and more in the next 20 years. So many cliche's here too- 'catch more bees with honey', 'keep your enemies closer', and my favorite "fuck you, you don't get a plate." Lastly with all the ivy leaguers in here ya'll have me editing these posts way way too much. LOL, its true though.
