Hi, I'm Kat. I live in Seattle, WA. I have lived in NNY, FL, TX, CA, and now WA. I'm interested in this course because current events have shown me how naive I am about the depth and breadth of race and religion based delusional beliefs and behaviors in modern society. It can be easy to hear of individual incidents and take them as aberrational, but to realize it's a whole arboreal ecosystem when before you had only seen individual trees....

Hey there - I'm Becca, located in Madison, Wis. and working in higher education, generally speaking. My interest is to better understand CRT, mostly because I'm sort of dorky.

Hello everyone,
My name is Tiffany, and I am a community organizer; born, raised and still living in NYC. In 2011, I was introduced to the concept of CRT when reading about Stuart Hall. I'm joining the group because I think it is one way for me to enhance my own learning, as well as an opportunity to deepen my understanding about CRT.

Yá’át’ééh shik’is! (Hello my friend), my name is Donnie Begay. I was born into my mother’s clan, Honágháahnii (One-Who-Walks-Around), and born for my father’s clan, Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House People). I grew on the Navajo reservation, North of Gallup, NM. I am married to Renee, who is from Zuni. We have three girls, Natalia, Kaya, and Peri. We work with Nations Ministry under umbrella of Cru. Interested in this class, because it sounds interesting and could be helpful in speaking about race in our organization that is predominately White.

Hi my name is Bailey! I am a benefits counselor in Ohio. My graduate work focused the need for peacebuilding initiatives and a truth and reconciliation commission in the United States, but being several years removed from school I am well overdue for an intensive refresher. I am trying to incorporate advocacy into my work, and I want to be as well educated about the multi-faceted experiences of the people I work with.

Hi, all!
My name is Sarah and I'm coming from Connecticut. I work at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, where I develop middle school social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum based on our center's research. I'm interested in this course so I can establish a more sound understanding of CRT, allowing me to view public and private school curriculum through this lens, in order to better position myself to create culturally responsive and relevant materials. Prior to this work, I taught at a large urban high school on Chicago's South Side, where I was part of a majority white teaching staff serving a population 100% composed of children and families of color.

Hello Everyone! I'm Sandy. Currently relocated to Maryland from Philadelphia. Currently on the job hunt but work in higher education and interested in 'diversity' and access. Specifically my question is "Diversity for who?" Is is really about providing access for the students or to have nice colorful brochures? Is is just a "hot top" right now. The emphasis is always on preparing this diverse student to come onto our campus but my question is what is the institution itself doing to prepare for the student as a whole and preparing their students that are not "diverse"? I have heard CRT used here and there but don't have a true understanding of what it is. I am looking forward to better understanding CRT and potentially seeing how it correlates to my question "Diversity for Who"?
Greeting from Maryland, just relocated from Philly.

Hi there folx!
My name is Krystal and I am originally from Trinidad, but currently residing in Canada.
I am interested in this course because I am hesitantly considering return to school for a PhD and figured this would provide some worthwhile learning and a bit of a trial run.

Hi, I'm Mollie. I'm a teacher from New York, living in London. I primarily work with young students with learning differences.
I'm here because I became aware a few years ago that my understanding of race and American society was woefully limited. I have sought to educate myself by reading everything I can get my hands on, but have been craving the chance to interact more with others who share the same feeling of urgency when it comes to understanding race.
Thank you for sharing this course with us!

Hello everyone, Julie here. I am a CTE prof at a community college in the Los Angeles area. I was raised in a small college town in the mid-west, and am proud of the experiences, exposure and education I received regardless of my community's size and isolation. Both of my parents were raised in very bigoted homes and I am grateful for their ability to pull themselves out of that mire, instilling in their children a sense of justice and fairness for all people. It has been a long time since I have had to opportunity to immerse myself into a sociology course, and upon reading the description realise that much of my understanding is outdated and lacking. It is important to me to maintain a solid and current understanding of such an important topic, not only as an educator, but as a contributing member of society. I am looking forward to diving into the readings, writing and discussions with everyone here. Thank you for this opportunity.

Dumela, this is Tsepo, South African in German exile.
Questions of race and gender determine my whole life. I am activist and trainer for anti-racism, critical whiteness (the German name for race studies) and diversity.
I am looking foreward to enter a US discourse.

Aloha! My name is Anthony and currently I am in Oahu. I use “currently my because I am in the Navy and getting out very soon- story that I would love to discuss once I am out of the navy *cough* racism *cough* sexism *cough* etc... My fiancé sends me a screenshot of a post and it was a stack of books and several of them I have and some I’ve read, and then I noticed the person who posted the photo and it was Dr Adrienne Keene. Funny to me because she follows her on Instagram but I follow her on twitter (now both). My fiancé and I are very interested in CRT, we both try our best to stay up to date with the powerful things Dr Keene is doing so naturally we jumped on this as soon as we could. I look forward to learning.
